The deal didn’t work out as planned – so Sun and Steel have ended up in the ring with God. Yep, that’s right: their ultimate fate comes down to whether or not they can defeat the highest power in the universe. Against impossible odds, can they triumph?
Talking of triumphs, Daniel Warren Johnson’s Do A Powerbomb has been an absolute joy from start to finish.
Not only has it been a brilliant comic that just happens to use the world of pro wrestling as its setting – doing so superbly, I must add – but it’s also repeatedly proven to be incredibly unpredictable and, despite the violence, it’s also got an awful lot of heart too.
Perhaps never more apparent than in last issue’s wonderfully touching flashbacks, the heartfelt scenes go to eleven berey, with some genuinely emotional moments. These hit at least as hard as any of the crunchy, dynamic fight sequences.
Now that it’s reached its conclusion, I’m comfortable in saying that Do A Powerbomb is almost certainly my comic series of the year. It’s been a wild and surprisingly affecting ride.
Though the collected edition isn’t available until March 2023, you can get yours pre-ordered from Amazon here.
I can highly recommend it, of course.
