Though I have tried to get into Minecraft, I’ve always struggled. Presented with a blank slate and limitless opportunities for creativity is something that always brings my lack of imagination to the fore; without imposed rules and goals, I struggle to come up with anything at all of note.
The same can’t be said of the players – and their stunning creations – featured in Minecraft Master Builds, a lavishly produced, hardcover volume that takes readers on numerous tours of stunningly detailed Minecraft worlds.

The creativity, ingenuity and passion is on display in every single one; the images showing off these incredible worlds are beautiful and the interviews with each creator are hugely insightful too. There’s a phenomenal amount of work that’s gone into each of these Minecraft creations and it’s fantastic to get an idea of just how they came together.
Though Minecraft isn’t my thing, as such, I was still fascinated with the creative processes and end results of each of these wonderful worlds, which you’d almost think were impossible to pull off – except you can see them for yourself in the pictures that document each one.
It’s a hugely entertaining, genuinely interesting read even for non-fans; the book itself is beautifully designed and wouldn’t look out of place as a coffee table-style collection of artwork amongst what would be considered more highbrow subject matter.

Are games art? The debate shouldn’t even still be occurring, but if you do have a sceptic in your midst, the Minecraft Master Builds book undeniably proves that yes, games can indeed be art.
The architectural wonders on display here showcase the best of the best when it comes to the exciting use of the digital tools that Minecraft provides; the gorgeous presentation of the book gives each one the spotlight they deserve.
