This Enemy Mine-esque story sees two pilots from opposite sides of an interstellar conflict forced to work together to survive, after their ships crash on a mysterious planet.
It’s an incredibly well written, compelling read from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Yet that’s only half the story.
Not only does it have a superb cliffhanger to set the series up, but a few pages before that twist is another.
Which is the one that everyone seems to be talking about.
I won’t spoil it here, but it’s a huge, audacious rug-pull of a revelation that immediately alerts readers to the fact that this is a shared universe, in a completely sudden and, let’s face it, very effective way.
Void Rivals #1 isn’t just a great launchpad for an original story, but also the beginning of some very exciting licensed comics from Skybound – which will seemingly feature new characters and settings alongside some that’ll be instantly familiar.
It’s difficult to talk much about Void Rivals beyond those points without spoiling it, but just trust me that this is a brilliantly produced comic that shocked me as much as it entertained me.
Go check it out and see what all the fuss is about for yourself – you can thank me later!
