Ever since the very first city building game, Sim City, arrived at the tail end of the 80s, I’ve had a soft spot for city building games.
Though the sweet spot between depth, complexity and fun is often a tricky one to hit, in recent years games such as Cities: Skylines have absolutely nailed it.
Yet there’s quite often the nagging feeling that, despite nearly 35 years of city building games, the genre hasn’t seen as much evolution as you may expect.
Which is where ambitious PC title Highrise City comes in. Not only does it bring that classic feel of planning and running your very own city, but it also adds in a pretty groundbreaking economic model and resource management system, that’ll see you dealing with production chains that, if maximised, will see your city thrive.
Though it’s been in Early Access on Steam since March 2022, it’s now nearing full release – which will occur later in 2023.

This is following months of huge updates, with community feedback also leading to the implementation of new features.
With the final major update – before leaving Early Access – having now been released for Highrise City, the game now has a new research system, an overhauled UI, visual improvements, new milestones and many more quality of life improvements.
This is in addition to the many changes that have been implemented already during the Early Access period, which included new maps, a building editor, completely enhanced visuals, new production lines and many more quality of life features.

Note that Highrise City’s price is set to change soon, so there’s never been a better time to get yourself into its great blend of city building and economic simulation.
