I’ve got a real soft spot for the nostalgia filled Saturday Morning Adventures line that IDW have been publishing for a while now.

Aiming to ape and reproduce the feel of classic Saturday morning cartoons, they’ve been great adaptations of their source material, with wonderful artwork and stories that evoke not just the 80s shows, but also old school comics too.

That means light hearted, family friendly adventures that don’t take themselves too seriously and generally end with everything being back to status quo by the final panel.

The same is true here, with this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Saturday Morning Adventures comic being a one shot from IDW’s Endless Summer event.

Each of the Endless Summer comics features, as you’d expect, sun-drenched fun featuring the main characters of each series, with Sonic the Hedgehog, Dungeons and Dragons and My Little Pony all getting in on the action.

In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic, the Turtles notice that the most fun loving sibling, Michelangelo, is not himself.

In fact, as they put it, poor overworked Mikey has lost his cowabunga.

So a fun day is soon on the agenda – with a break at a local theme park – where costumes are encouraged, allowing the Turtles to just be themselves.

Naturally, villainy is afoot – and the Turtles are soon stopping an old enemy from carrying out a plan for works domination at the theme park.

Though heavily based on coincidence, contrivance and silly, convenient plot development, that’s all part of the fun and in the spirit of the classic TMNT cartoons.

It’s a wonderfully colourful comic, with the art providing a beautifully nostalgic throwback for us aging fans – and a family friendly adventure for younger fans who may be coming to the franchise after seeing the glorious Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie.

It’s exactly what the Summer of 2023 needs; a bold, colourful and warmly nostalgic shot of silliness, to take us away – if only momentarily – from what’s been a drab season in reality.
