As the third IDW Endless Summer comic I’ve read, I was worried even partway through reading Sonic the Hedgehog that they’d all follow the exact same formula.
That is to say that the heroes all realise they’ve been working too hard for too long, so they decide to have a summer break – yet soon stumble upon the bad guys and end up having an adventure anyway.
That’s not quite the case here, with Sonic and his extended cast happening upon the bad guys and resorting to a different method entirely than the usual conflict we might expect.
It’s super cute and colourful; Sonic has always found a natural home in comics (arguably much more successfully than most of his video games) and this one is no exception.
It’s another hit from IDW and their Endless Summer comics, which make me nostalgic for simple, good natured and straightforward comic stories that anyone of any age can enjoy.
