The second issue of animal-centric superhero story, Marvel Unleashed, is a much more action oriented affair than the first.
The evil plan requiring giant, teleporting, Inhuman dog Lockjaw is revealed – with none other than the son of Mephisto, Blackheart, behind it.
Blackheart is seeking to escape from his hidden, hellish realm – and desires nothing less than the destruction of our world.
Standing in his way are the good boys and girls of the Marvel Universe, with the pets of superheroes – and one dog who desperately wants to be a superhero themselves – gathering together to foil Blackheart.
Though not as good as the first issue – which crammed a lot of cute detail and nuance into its pages, told from the perspective of the animals – it’s still a fun read.
We also get quite a bit of the Asgardian Amphibian, Throg, in this issue too!
Though I wouldn’t say it’s unmissable – as issue one felt – I’d still recommend checking out Marvel Unleashed, as it offers a pretty fresh perspective on the Marvel Universe; it certainly doesn’t hurt that the art is absolutely phenomenal too.
