In this issue’s pre-credit opening sequence, we see just how powerful – and, frankly, terrifying – The Adana is, while also setting up another extremely powerful Marvel character’s involvement in the ongoing story too.

Blade’s plot thickens here too; not only do we find out exactly how he can try to take down The Adana, but also where his quest for the specific weapon he needs will take him.

Despite the sequences of exposition – and there’s an absolutely stunning, biblically themed story scene included too – there’s also the great action that is a trademark of both Blade and writer Bryan Edward Hill.

As I’ve remarked before, Hill writes his comics like action movies on paper – and always finds collaborators who elevate his superb scripts with jaw dropping art.

Blade is no exception for Hill; Elena Casagrande and Valentina Pinti’s art is stunning, with brilliantly choreographed action sequences and that beautifully rendered, aforementioned biblical sequence that truly is beautifully done.

It’s been really refreshing to see Blade venture deeper into the world of magic and the supernatural, beyond the vampires he usually faces.

And Bryan Edward Hill is absolutely the right person to take Blade forward; so far, this has been one of my favourite comics of the year – a great surprise and one that I’d unquestionably recommend.
