Despite having worked together to survive and escape the planet they were trapped on together, the Agorrian pilot is betrayed by the Zertonian, who takes him to her home planet, perhaps expecting a hero’s welcome.
Yet there’s much more going on behind the scenes than she bargained for – and things may not work out for her exactly as she planned.
There’s plenty of twists and turns in the fourth issue of Robert Kirkman’s new series; it’s a really compelling read.
However, the jumps to what’s going on with the Transformers-related characters are starting to feel like a needless, unconnected distraction at this point; though they don’t take up many pages of this issue, they still take us away from the genuinely excellent main narrative thread.
Though it was a welcome and shocking surprise to initially see the connection to the Energon Universe (as the current shared Hasbro Universe is known in these Skybound titles), the novelty has worn off somewhat now and I do wish that Kirkman would just leave the Transformers to their own, just launched series.
It doesn’t feel as if they’re doing anything particularly noteworthy anyway – though this of course may change as the series progresses further.
However, despite this annoyance, the main story of Void Rivals continues to be excellent – and we’re left with another shocking cliffhanger to make us really hungry for the fifth issue.
