The last remnants of humanity survive on a self sufficient craft – the Dodona – built on an asteroid, moving through the void.
When a pilot on the Dodona risks her life and disobeys orders to save a fellow crewmember, she’s in serious trouble.
Escaping custody, she makes her way to the lower levels of the ship; with the upper and lower level inhabitants kept segregated, she discovers a world and a life down there that she had no idea could be possible.
The same is true of the person she meets and brings to the upper levels, against all advice – setting off a chain of events that will change the Dodona and the lives of the two strangers forever.
The first of a four part series, The Space Between #1 does a remarkable job of building a believable, detailed world – and does so alongside a sweet tale of love and the power that normal people have to change the world.
It’s lovely stuff, brilliantly written and illustrated perfectly, with a beautiful heart at its core.
With each issue set to feature a different set of characters, it’s perhaps a shame that we won’t see the story of these star crossed lovers progress – but I’m looking forward to what the creative team bring us next.
