Jumping around Logan’s timeline and popping up where you’d least expect it, the Predator has set his sights on the hairy mutant – and is going to have a direct effect on the development of the Weapon X programme, which Wolverine is in the midst of at one point in this narratively bold adventure.
There’s a lot to like in Predator vs Wolverine – and this third issue goes to some surprisingly gory places, as the Yautja tracks down and messily investigates the mutant’s body.
I think what impresses me most is that – given how much a showdown between these two characters makes sense and how long readers have had to wait for it to happen officially – this could have just been a lazily conceived and hastily cranked out crossover.
Yet the multiple timelines and interweaving of the Predator in Wolverine’s very long history is done incredibly well – this has turned out to be a really good surprise.
In fact, despite Dark Horse having done right by the Predator franchise for around three decades, it seems that the series is in great hands at Marvel; both this crossover and the standalone Predator series have been consistently excellent, which is more than can be said for the Yautja’s stablemate and sometimes opponent, the Alien.
