The 50th anniversary mega crossover series Prisoners of Time – published in 2013, with an issue per month covering each of the Doctors in turn – continues here with issue nine, as we finally reach the modern era of Doctor Who!
Yep, this issue is a story featuring Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper’s Rose; like several of the best issues of this series so far, it feels almost effortlessly like it could be a lost episode of the show.
Yet here, we now finally get the big reveal as to just who has been stealing the Doctor’s companions throughout time and space, from each of his incarnations.
If you’re at all familiar with modern Who, you’ll no doubt know who this is and remember them, even if their motivation doesn’t quite ring true – it seems a bit extreme, even under the circumstances (which, I must admit, never seemed fair at the time).
It’s good stuff, despite the slightly underwhelming reveal of the villain – and does set up a very interesting situation for the last few issues.
