Prisoners of Time enters the final stretch, as we get to David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor – and join him on a fairly low key adventure on a 1950s Hollywood movie set.
Alongside Martha, the Doctor uncovers an alien invasion plot on the set of a sci-fi B-movie – but soon discovers that the shadowy villain who’s been stealing companions from each of his prior incarnations, across his entire timeline simultaneously, is onto him.
It’s another fun done-in-one; well, aside from that crossover element of course. Having the villain’s identity revealed in the previous issue means there’s no messing around; there’s a proper confrontation – and the Doctor even starts hatching a plan to fight back too.
There’s just two issues left of this incredibly ambitious 50th anniversary crossover; though the crossover aspect itself has been a bit underwhelming overall, the individual stories, the various Doctors and their companions have all been written to perfection.
It may well have been a better idea just to have the standalone adventures featuring a Doctor per issue – but let’s see how it handles Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor and the inevitable multi-Doctor conclusion before we cast our final judgment.
