Things are going from bad to worse for ex-wrestler Danny Knossos. In an effort to save the life of Teddy, his drug-addicted boyfriend, he’s ended up owing a debt to Eduard.

Eduard, in short, is a nasty piece of shit.

Acting as muscle for Eduard, Danny is forced to keep his mouth shut and carry out some truly despicable acts of violence; the kind that he was on the receiving end of, at Eduard’s behest, not so long ago.

And Eduard, it seems, is very pleased with Danny – and has bigger plans for him.

Meanwhile, Reynolds is being bumped up the roster as an active wrestler, which means parting ways with his mentor, Davis.

Problem is, they’ve become pretty fond of each other. Is the affection that Reynolds is feeling for his older partner one sided?

Honestly, Joe Keatinge just keeps on knocking it out of the park as Ringside continues.

It’s such a grim, gritty and downbeat crime comic that you occasionally forget it’s set in, and adjacent to, the glitzy world of professional wrestling.

There don’t appear to be any heroes here; not really. Closest we have to some characters we feel we can really root for are Reynolds and Davis, but there’s the sense that Reynolds is going to be chewed up and spat out by the system that did the same to Danny Knossos, completely breaking him in the process.

There was also the sense that Danny was an honourable, decent guy when the series started – but that position gets harder to defend as he continues doing Eduard’s bidding, unquestioningly.

Though he’s doing what he’s doing to protect his partner, his actions do feel pretty unforgivable here; he’s certainly reaching the point of no return.

Can he come back from the brink?

Judging by the cliffhanger in this issue, he may well be pushed over the edge very soon indeed.

Ringside is a remarkable comic, with a great deal of knowledge about the backstage workings of an industry that can still sometimes be guilty of using and abusing its talent, taking everything from them and giving little in return once their bodies give up.
