The narrative of Ringside, focusing on a small number of guys either already chewed up and spat out by the wrestling business, or definitely well on their way, continues to be hugely compelling as we begin the 11th issue and its third story arc.

Danny Knossos finally seems to be on top of a situation that was spiralling out of control, but his past seems to be coming back to haunt him, from more than one side.

Reynolds has lost his golden opportunity, but despite his anger and resentment, he’s determined to get himself back in business.

And Davis, ex-partner of Reynolds, is ominously talking to a reporter about the past. Is this a flash forward?

Is there more tragedy to come before the final bell rings?

There’s certainly no doubt about it; unlike the wrestlers it focuses on, Ringside doesn’t pull any punches. Though other issues are definitely much more violent and graphic than this one, the spectre of the past looms large over the scenes here – and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that very few people are going to get out of this unscathed, if they even get out at all.

It’s mesmerising, utterly compelling stuff – a great mashup of crime comic and backstage wrestling expose that unflinchingly focuses on some utterly dreadful people, as well as a few that deserve better than to be tossed aside for the sake of a few extra bucks.
