Things are a little difficult for me at the moment financially, so I’m having to cut back on the more high profile comics I tend to review, and instead take a look at the selection of comics available as part of Amazon’s Prime Reading program.
It’s certainly not all bad, as this has led me to some interesting stuff, the latest of which is the Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman-penned Census.
So yes, times are a little hard right now, but thankfully the situation is not quite as bad for me as it is for the main character of Census, Liam Malone.
Liam’s so strapped for cash that he accepts a job after discovering a very vague ad on the bus; this turns out to be for a position as a census taker, which sounds innocent enough right?
Well, as the cheeky fourth wall break in the eye-catching opening panel immediately reveals, Liam’s stumbled into a situation that’s far from innocent.
Census is a bit of a raucous, surprisingly raunchy comic that takes a good few left turns on the way to the end of this first issue.
On art (and colour!) duties, Sebastian Piriz draws some very suggestive situations, as well as some great looking supernatural stuff (in trying to keep spoilers to a minimum, that’s all you’re getting in terms of details: supernatural stuff).
It’s fun, it’s witty and it’s pretty damn sexy too.
Where could it be going? Like Liam, I can’t really be blamed for going back for more of Census, so I’ll be sure to find out soon enough.
