It’s time for some good, old fashioned pulp adventure as I check out a comic so early that even the cover was a work in progress when I was first sent it!

University Folklore Professor, Nathaniel Fox, is in New Delhi, searching for the titular tomb.

It’s 1932, and New Delhi is a city with more than its fair share of political turmoil and upheaval; when a friend of Fox is attacked, he finds himself in a deadly situation, with the English and Germans seeking answers and both standing in the way of his quest.

It’s a really interesting start for a somewhat Indiana Jones-esque adventure.

Though there’s more than one action sequence, this opening chapter focuses on the tense situation that New Delhi finds itself in, with foreign meddlers on all sides, which of course includes Fox himself as an outsider to the country.

It’s nicely paced and well written by Rodolfo Santullo, with excellent, stylised artwork by Manuel Loza. El Santa’s colour work is somewhat muted and evocative of the time and location, with script, art and colours all combining to give the story a vividly period feel, with square jawed, two fisted heroics and angular, untrustworthy antagonists the order of the day.

It’ll soon be seeking funds via Kickstarter; creator Santullo (along with variant cover artist Roberto Viacava, who kindly provided me with this press copy of the issue for review purposes) were also responsible for the wonderfully understated surrealism of the comic book Voyager, but Nathaniel Fox is a very different beast, albeit one that is also an excellent read.

You can follow the Kickstarter campaign and be alerted when it launches here.
