The fifth issue of Atari Force sees the leader of the original team, Martin Champion, teaming up with his son, a few friends and a stowaway or two to steal his old spaceship.

It’s a pretty fun romp, but it takes way too long to explain exactly why they’re doing what they’re doing, as well as having the continuing problem of Martin Champion being an absolute dick.

Also, the cover depicts something that doesn’t happen at all in this issue, which is ridiculous!

So, while Atari Force is definitely getting better after a weak, meandering start, it’s certainly not perfect.

Its connection to anything Atari-related is pretty much non-existent too, though this may well have been intentional, given that it was published after the 1983 video game crash (caused in large part by Atari themselves!).

In any case, I’m still reading it, and I’ll continue to check out each issue and share my thoughts on them. Who knows, it may turn out to be a masterpiece in the end, right? Right?
