Everything’s coming to a head, as The Denim Devil, the police and, it seems, just about everyone else has made their way to the Vangler Denim Factory. It’s time for the Devil(s?) to be unmasked, for origins to be revealed, and for everything to come to an inevitably, unavoidably bloody climax.
It’s been one hell of a ride; surreal, gory, full of slasher tropes (subverted and otherwise) and the blackest of black humour. At the centre of it, the Denim Devil himself has remained a weirdly sympathetic, oddly endearing character, and that element persists, even more so, in this final issue of the series.
It’s truly fantastic stuff, with writers Zach Carter and Jared Yanez (with Yanez also providing the superb art, and Gillian Yanez assisting with the off kilter, brilliantly atmospheric colours) continuing to layer on the twists and turns, all the way through to the final panel.
It’s a series I can’t recommend highly enough, providing you have a strong stomach for its gore and the darker elements of its story. As funny as it can often be, The Denim Devil really does go to some very dark places.
That said, it’s really is worth the trip; and it really is a trip, too. Massive thanks to Zach Carter for providing me with each issue of The Denim Devil prior to release, for review purposes. The Denim Devil #5 is being released on August 21, 2024. You can pre-order the digital edition via Amazon, and it’ll also be available directly from November Street Press. If you want to get your hands on a physical copy of the issue, a limited run of 100 print copies will also be available on the November Street Press Etsy shop.
