Dark Horse Comics produced some incredible licensed titles back in the 80s and 90s, with their expansions of the Aliens and Predator cinematic universes (not to mention their stunning crossovers) being especially well received.

At a time when it felt like comics were still aimed at kids, as much as mainstream titles were trying their best to be edgy, Dark Horse Comics really did feel like they were aimed at a mature audience, and did a great job of either continuing stories that began in films, or covering new ground in the setting of each series.

Their Terminator comics were more of the latter, staying away from the Sarah and John Connor side of things to utilise original characters for their stories. Though the time travel aspect still heavily featured, they did go to some surprisingly new and, it has to be said, often quite dark places.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Terminator (the first film having been released in 1984), Humble have teamed up with the current license holder for Terminator comics, Dynamite Entertainment. They’re offering digital copies of the majority of the original Dark Horse Comics series, as well as a few, more modern ones too (want to read the awful 2029-1984 for a ridiculously cheap price? Be my guest!).

You can buy collections of 12 different Terminator mini-series for around $15, which is a phenomenal deal. Though it’s not all exceptional stuff, there’s some really interesting stories here, including legendary artist Alex Ross’s first published comic book work, Terminator: The Burning Earth.

You can check out and purchase the bundle from Humble here, with a certain percentage of every purchase going to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund; an initiative that helps defend writers and artists from legal challenges that can often mean censorship of their work, or in some extreme cases, prosecution.

In any case, these classic, old school Terminator comics are well worth checking out; if you’re a fan of the franchise, there’s an awful lot of stuff here that you’ll enjoy, and they’ll likely never be this cheap again!
