Ryu continues to be tempted by the dark power of the Satsui No Hado, Guile and Cammy find Vega in charge of Shadaloo (and a ton of robots), and the head of the Secret Society, Gill, continues to ascend to a very powerful and dominant position in the political world.

All in a day’s work for the Street Fighter characters, eh?

Joking aside, this volume went off the rails a bit for me; considering how bonkers previous volumes were, and how much I still enjoyed them, that’s really saying something.

The problem I had with this particular collection of Street Fighter issues is that it felt a bit repetitive; much of what occurred was already being put in motion in the previous series, Super Street Fighter, and it just doesn’t feel like it progresses very much here.

It’s still hugely action packed and absolutely gorgeous to look at, and the Bonus Round shorts between each issue are superb, but I must say the whole Gill plot, coupled with Ryu still struggling against the dark side, just left me cold. In the wake of his victory in the first Street Fighter series, it feels as if poor Ryu has been left with nothing to do, and nowhere interesting to go. Having fulfilled his mission of avenging his master’s death, he’s just been spinning his wheels ever since.

Let’s hope that things pick up for him in volume 2, eh?
