Set in a dark, fantasy world in which monsters are very real and seemingly very prevalent, The Hunt features two stories – Massacre at Midnight and Red Night – along with an Epilogue which sets up a future story.
Massacre at Midnight sees an Innkeeper and his barmaid terrorised by some monstrous, albeit all too human, townspeople – with help arriving from an unlikely source.
Red Night focuses on a vampire, and her attempts to escape the clutches of a relentless hunter.
Both stories are action packed, fast paced and told with a great deal of visual flair, as well as an impressive amount of world building and characterisation, despite there being minimal exposition. It takes no time at all to be swept up in the monster-infested world of the stories, which adds its own unique elements to familiar creatures, such as vampires, werewolves and more.
One aspect I really appreciated was the sympathetic treatment of the monsters themselves, despite their vicious and animalistic nature. I tend to find myself on the side of the oppressed, hunted creatures in many creature features and classic horror stories; it seems to me as if the creator of The Hunt, Jorin Evers (who, very impressively, is solely responsible for putting the comic together), shares this viewpoint, as his monsters are much more than just mindless, evil beasts.
My only complaint is that there’s not more of The Hunt to read yet; I was rapidly absorbed by the world and its inhabitants, and can’t wait to explore more of it.
The Hunt is currently in the midst of its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter; you can check it out, and pledge for your own copy of the comic, at this link.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
