Writer Fabian Nicieza really knows how to tug at the heartstrings. Having successfully done so in the first two issues of Troublemakers, he does it again in the third.

Jane, like the rest of the genetically engineered teens in the compound, has a biofield which gives her superhuman powers. The problem is, unlike the others, she can’t control hers, and it’s led to some massive accidents which cause her to be isolated for her own safety, as well as the safety of others. Will she be able to control her powers with some assistance, or will she need to remain alone?

It’s a sad and emotional story in this issue, with a kid being isolated for no real fault of her own; especially as she didn’t ask for the devastating powers she received. The adults in her life have failed her too, but there is at least, as with the other stories in Troublemakers so far, a glimmer of hope and a chance that things may be looking up by the end of the issue.

Once more, I’m left impressed by Troublemakers, and I’m very keen to keep reading the series, especially as it (somewhat sadly) only lasted for 19 issues. It’s an underrated, hidden gem from a period in comics which is all too easy to disparage, and it proves at least some comics that emerged in the few years after the crash are worth discovering.

Though I’ve been picking Troublemakers up in physical form (as is obvious from the somewhat battered copy I managed to buy from Dave’s Comics in Brighton recently), you can actually buy it from Amazon, to read digitally. It comes highly recommended by this lifelong comic book fan!

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
