Having appeared in the Antarctic Press Horror Comics anthology series in 2024, co-writer Dino Caruso asked me if I wanted to check out and review his four part story, Origin Point. So here are my thoughts on the first issue!

A group of scientists, working without any oversight or authorisation, have cracked the code on some incredible projects; however, not all of them, are particularly ethical. When the fruits of one project are scattered throughout history as the scientists come under attack, several of them start making their way back to their origin point (hence the story’s title!).

A fascinating and original blend of Frankensteinian and supernatural horror, paired with time travel elements, Origin Point #1 is a little confusing at first, and there’s a few odd moments where things don’t quite seem to make sense, but just about all of the pieces do fall into place by the last page.

Caruso and co-writer Shawn Richison do a great job with their unique premise, and artist JC Grande provides nicely moody artwork which doesn’t skimp on the gore.

It’s an enjoyable and very fast paced read, and I’m looking forward to reading (and reviewing!), the second part and beyond.

You can read the first part of Origin Point in Horror Comics #30, which you can buy directly from Antarctic Press. Many thanks to Dino Caruso for sending me Origin Point #1 for review purposes.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
