Imagine being unconscious while the apocalypse unfolds, then waking up with no memories to a new and terrifying world, in which danger seems to lurk around every corner. That’s the situation which young Amelia Sky finds herself in, in the first part of this epic sci-fi/horror comic series, by Jermaine M. Boyd and Gwynne Tavares.
Boyd really does create an incredibly scary new world, with plenty of horrendous touches that remind us, and poor Amelia herself, that we aren’t in Kansas any more. The detailed, painterly and dark style employed by Tavares is a perfect complement to Boyd’s script, and we’re given enough tantalising details, dropped right from the opening scene, to make us want to find out exactly what happened, who Amelia is, and what’s going to transpire next.
It’s excellent stuff, taking a massive apocalyptic event and zeroing in on a single character to give it a more intimate and personal feel. On the strength of this first issue, I’m definitely looking forward to reading more!
Many thanks to Jermaine M. Boyd for sending me Amelia Sky #1 for review purposes. You can buy the first issue from Amazon here.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
