Asher and Suny are small-time thieves who scrape a living on the Dry Deck, who may just have the opportunity to buy their way out of their lowly place in the universe with their next job.

These Lies End In Death #1 only hints at the wider universe beyond the story, and it’s so laser focused on Asher and Suny themselves that there’s little sense of the big world outside of their story. However, it’s part of (and a prequel to) The Old Universe novels, which are, as I understand it, a much more detailed exploration of the gritty and lived in sci-fi universe.

It may be helpful to already be familiar with The Old Universe, though it may be the case that important details are revealed as These Lies End In Death continues. As it is, it does feel as if we’re barely introduced to our main characters and their status quo before the issue ends here.

It’s well written, and the characters aren’t simply black-and-white in terms of what they’re prepared to do to survive. The artwork does a good job with the characters, but I didn’t get the feel of the world they inhabit being particularly grimy or well-used, which I think was supposed to come across.

If you’re familiar with The Old Universe novels, or if you’re looking for the beginning of a much bigger and more sprawling saga to sink your teeth into, These Lies End In Death #1 is likely to be a pretty satisfying read.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
