If you thought there was a lot going on in issue 17 (and there really was!), that’s nothing to the absolutely stacked #18. War is erupting on just about every front, with new Autobot Shredhead turning the tide on Cybertron, Ultra Magnus responding aggressively to the human military, and a kaiju-esque battle unfolding on the streets of Seattle. Not only that, but a very important character, who’s been MIA for some time, is about to make a very dramatic return.
It’s all very exciting stuff, though I couldn’t help but feel that the new, original character, the aforementioned Shredhead, has a really boring alt mode. That aside, the new Autobot (referred to by writer Daniel Warren Johnson with they/them pronouns, perhaps due to the fact that they were created with a mix of sparks from different, fallen Autobots) makes a very impressive and immediately memorable entrance in bot mode, kicking some serious Decepticon butt in a very satisfying way.
As I’ve mentioned before, Johnson really nails these characters, and it’s clear that he is having a huge amount of fun in the Transformers sandbox. Jorge Corona’s art really is stunning too, with some fantastic, widescreen action here that looks truly phenomenal. Of course, I have to mention Mike Spicer’s wonderfully vivid colour palette, which complements the artwork beautifully.
That returning character (who shall remain nameless because, well: spoilers, sweetie!) also makes a big impact and leaves the reader hungry for the next issue immediately. Next month can’t come soon enough.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
