The Colonial Marshals have entered into an uneasy partnership with the criminals they were tracking at the Paradiso resort, but it’s to the surprise of no one that this doesn’t last long. Yet there are still some surprises to come in this penultimate issue of the series; can anyone survive the onslaught of the xenomorphs in Alien: Paradiso?

I think it’s fair to say that Alien: Paradiso has been a bit of an inconsistent series. Despite its unusual and interesting setting, little has been done with it, and the same goes for the daughter of Kane (the first victim of the xenomorphs in Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie) who, aside from a line or two of dialogue referencing him, seems to just be there for no good reason.

There could have been some interesting commentary about the resort, its criminal underbelly and the gulf between the rich and those who serve them there, but this is generally ignored in favour of carnage, sans subtext.

It generally looks nice, at least, with the excellent touch of the xenomorph ‘vision’ that has been employed since the first issue, but overall it can’t help but feel disappointing. It’s competent, but it does feel as if, casino/vacation setting aside, we’ve seen it all before. Unfortunately, even the surprise synthetic among the main cast members isn’t anything new; it’s a perfectly adequate comic and story, but I was expecting something more. Let’s see how things wrap up in the next, and final, issue.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day.
