Based in the universe of the What’s Old Is New tabletop RPG, which is flexible enough to be set in just about any genre or time period, Another Space is a comic which takes a ragtag group of mismatched characters and sends them off on a potentially deadly mission.

An ambitious, snobby military man, a rambunctious (and somewhat bigoted) pilot, an insecure soldier and an unappreciated bartender are the main characters, and in quite an unusual touch from first time writer CJ Durbin, they’re not a particularly likeable bunch.

There’s little snatches of irreverence and humour in the world building, which did put me in mind of off-kilter, comedic sci-fi such as Red Dwarf or Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It also has aome nicely economical exposition to set the scene, and the art, by Dicepool Party’s JR Turvey, gives it an unusual, underground comix-style vibe.

It’s a fun read, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to our group of ne’er-do-wells in further issues in the series.

Many thanks to JR Turvey for sending me a digital copy of Another Space #1 for review purposes. Check out the Dicepool Party website for details on their comic releases.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
