The first part of Requiem sets up an intriguing story which brings the dark history of Deep Space Nine to the fore, and issue #9 of Malibu’s Deep Space Nine series features part 2.

Major Kira is obsessed with finding the missing Bajoran child whose parents were executed by the Cardassians a few years prior, and meanwhile O’Brien (assisted by a Cardassian Engineer) is trying to ensure that the station isn’t blown up by its faulty reactor.

The two threads of the Requiem story come together well here, though it’s certainly not a happy ending for all of our characters. There’s some great character development for Kira in particular, and even though her quest to find the young orphan is almost certainly destined to end in tragedy, she’s still compelled to find out exactly what happened. The revelation is somewhat shocking, and definitely demonstrates the darker and more morally grey tone that Deep Space Nine brings to the Star Trek franchise.

It’s excellent stuff, and also proves once again just how good Malibu’s Star Trek comics were; they seemed to have learned their lesson on how to handle licenses pretty quickly after the Street Fighter debacle, with really strong Mortal Kombat and Star Trek titles, among others. In many ways, Malibu did a better job with their licensed comics than with many of their original titles, particularly when they kickstarted the somewhat uninteresting Genesis shared universe crossover.

Which is something I’ll be covering at some point soon, so watch this space!

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
