Intergalactic peace is threatened by the takeover of a remote moon, thanks to a secret base that’s about to be discovered by hostile forces. With key intel inside the base, superhero Anvil Liza is sent to retrieve it, but she finds a surprising situation unfolding on the moon, and her sense of duty takes over.
Not only is Ben Worrell’s art truly spectacular (with gorgeous colour by Wilson Go, utilised most spectacularly in a cosmic flight sequence), but Max Ferrada’s script is a lot more nuanced than may be expected from a visually sumptuous superhero sci-fi tale. It’s definitely much more than a style over substance exercise, with wittily written commercial interludes (bringing RoboCop to mind) adding both humour and a Chekhov’s Gun-style expectation that we’ll see the hardware advertised used in upcoming scenes.
There’s some unforeseen developments towards the end of this issue too, and there’s certainly much more to the galactic political situation than we see here, with plenty of setup for future issues.
Despite it being longer than a standard comic issue, Stellarlands #1 is compelling enough to make it a fairly swift read, with an intriguing and detailed setting underpinning the story. It’s a really impressive start to the series, and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more.
You can buy Stellarlands #1 from Amazon here.
Many thanks to Max Ferrada for providing me with a copy of Stellarlands #1 for review purposes.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
