Issue 7 opens with Jennika battling the Nightwatcher armour itself; it’s sentient, and the battle between them ends up developing in surprising ways, with Jennika determined to wrap things up on her own terms.

This was an incredibly emotional issue, heavy on both action and genuinely affecting scenes, as Jennika confronts not just the armour or the now-caged Lao Ban, but also her own past.

I think it’s come as a surprise to just about everyone reading Nightwatcher that this is its final issue; though that’s sad, because writer Juni Ba and artist Fero Pe have created a genuinely unique story within the TMNT universe, it goes out on a high, being a near perfect seven issue run which gives Jennika a well earned send off.

The opening fight scene very cleverly homages a famous confrontation in the 2007 TMNT movie too, in which the Nightwatcher armour made its debut (though it was worn by Raphael in the movie).

Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Jennika; she’s a fantastic character, and Nightwatcher has been a brilliant showcase for a gritty, street level and emotional look at the lesser seen mutants of the TMNT universe. Superb stuff.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
