Or to give the comic its full title, The All-Newx All-Deadly Gwenpool #1. Which, well…it certainly starts off that way, with a Gwenpool who’s far darker and more violent than we’re used to.
However, we’re soon back into more familiar territory, with our fourth wall breaking heroine taking on, and teaming up with, some big hitters in the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man, Kate Bishop, Fin Fang Foom and Jeff the Land-Shark (he’s adorable!) all appear, and there’s a bit of a shocking cliffhanger in this issue too.
It’s very busy, and yet it’s all good fun, even if one particular fourth wall break feels like it cheats a bit in the way it uses the comic book panels. For those of you unaware of Gwen Poole (yes, that’s her name), her thing is that she’s a real person who’s found their way into the Marvel Universe of the comic books, and as such she’s fully aware of the fact that she is now a character in a comic, often using that knowledge to her advantage.
Anyway, I haven’t read any Gwenpool for some time, but my eye was caught by the apparent darker twist to her character; I’m glad it’s not quite what it appears to be, and writer Cavan Scott seems to be taking us on quite an unexpected journey here. An excellent, if all too brief, read.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
