The trap has been set and the spies have been lured to the site of the weather antenna, now loaded with important data. So all the Starfleet security officers have to do is wait, then attack when the time is right. Of course, with such a famously low life expectancy among the red shirted members of security, things don’t quite go to plan.
If you thought the first issue of Red Shirts was shocking in terms of dispatching characters we’d only just been introduced to, wait until you read Red Shirts #2. There’s a whole sequence where one poor red shirt after another meets their demise, in often gruesome, jaw dropping ways.
Red Shirts #2 opens with character profiles, much like the first issue did, except the deceased members of the case are now crossed out. The body count from the first issue seemed surprisingly low in retrospect; the third issue will have plenty more crosses amongst the crew’s photos and details!
It’s great so far, and even though it’s a cliché to say that no one is safe (it’s a regular way of hyping up danger in a story, and rarely true), in this instance, that really does feel like it’s the case. Especially given who we suddenly, and graphically, lose out of nowhere in issue #2.
It makes for riveting stuff; a far cry from the tame peril of original series Trek, where simply appearing in a red shirt, or suddenly being referred to by name early on in an episode, would seal your doom. Here, the danger is present even when every character has their own, compelling backstory and surname, making things incredibly unpredictable and exciting.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
