It’s been a while since I last reviewed an issue of Dynamite Entertainment’s The Terminator comic book series, hasn’t it? Time has a way of getting away from you.

That’s something which Skynet doesn’t have a problem with; all of time is at its disposal, and it keeps sending Terminators through history, seemingly at random, taking out (or, quite often, failing to take out) different targets. Yet as random as it’s seemed over the course of this series so far, in issue #8 we find out that there was a grand plan after all, and Skynet is only just realising that it has to set its sights higher if it wants to change the course of the future.

This is an unusual issue, in that it entirely focuses on Skynet analysing the outcomes of the missions from the previous issues. Told mostly in text via Skynet’s computer screens and flashes of ‘footage’ from the prior stories, it builds up to a cool crescendo and then punches you hard in the gut with a steel fist. There’s one hell of a final panel that brings more than just the rest of the series together.

Though I’d kind of burned out on this series (which has now ended after 10 issues), this issue is a real shot in the arm; it’s interestingly experimental in form, and it’s really cool to see all of the previously disparate threads, assumed to be one-off stories, coming together in an unexpected, surprising and really satisfying way.

With just a few issues left of this run, I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together in the end; without spoiling anything, there’s much more than the continuity of this comic series now in the mix, and it’s become very exciting indeed as of the end of this issue.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!
