Joel gives a eulogy at the funeral of Chris, his best friend. After the funeral, Joel talks to Chris’s father, who left when his son was a kid. The two men end up bonding, with Joel opening up and telling his friend’s father about one of his secret desires. Meanwhile, the Ice Cream Man is up to his usual tricks, but he may be about to encounter someone who’s well equipped to put him in his place…

This issue feels incredibly bleak, with numerous characters who have, or are about to, throw their lives away. It’s a serious meditation on grief, regret and missed opportunities that ends in a particularly creepy way, though a small sliver of light pokes through, with the debut of a character who it seems will be very important going forward.

An interlude featuring the story’s deceased character takes us on a bizarre, nightmarish detour, with Martín Morazzo once more doing a stellar job with the artwork. W. Maxwell Prince’s script features a few sequences that offer clever stylistic touches, with Chris O’Halloran’s colouring adding further thematic flavor to the proceedings.

After a third issue which felt like it didn’t say much of interest or consequence, Ice Cream Man #4 doesn’t just tell a great horror story, but also feels like it’s seeding the future of the series, with several elements that feel as if they’re going to be very important going forward.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
