One of my favourite things to do is check out weird little oddities, when I’m eagerly flipping through bargain boxes at comic shops, and I discovered this little gem on a recent trip to Southampton Comics.
Though it’s only a preview of a longer form book, this is a cute little introduction to a kid-centric version of Superman, the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. It’s your typical setup: a couple of allied heroes encounter a new super-powered individual and assume the worst, only to discover a new friend with better intentions than they initially believed.
It’s all good fun, with a really charming, cartoony style and a gentle, all-ages sense of humour. It’s a very good appetiser for the graphic novel it’s promoting.
A back up story features a preview of another all ages DC graphic novel; the very pun-tastic Aquamanatee. This features a similar, cartoon style to Superman’s Good Guy Gang, albeit a bit less childlike and cleaner in its execution. It’s still beautifully colourful and very appealingly illustrated, with a silly pun-based theme that goes beyond just the clever title.
I’m a big fan of Free Comic Book Day, which happens every May in local and national comic book stores; this type of title, which showcases the range of styles and tones you can find even in mainstream comic books, seems tailor made for new readers and curious parents; on this evidence alone, it looks like both graphic novels are worth checking out for younger readers.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
