Or ‘Bitten by the Blind Bag Bug’, for another, and very accurate, article title. I’d somehow managed to ignore the Harley Quinn x Elvira series, but when I saw the first issue on sale in a blind bag, I couldn’t resist picking it up. Was it worth it?
Harley Quinn is having anxiety dreams, and comes to the conclusion that the only way she can fix her current psychological problems is to throw a party with Elvira as the guest of honour. Meanwhile, Elvira loses her job as TV’s campest, vampiest horror host, and Harley may be the one person who can give her a helping hand.
Amander Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti waste no time in giving readers a chaotic, slapstick, cheesecake-style team up with several fourth wall breaks and cheeky winks at the camera. In short, exactly what you’d expect from a team up of two very mischievous, amusingly lewd, somewhat meta characters.
It’s all very silly, campy and fast paced fun. It’s quite the crowd pleasing read, and it’s also beautifully illustrated; that cheekiness is on full display with the art as well as the writing here!

As you can see, the cover I found in my blind bag was the black and white variant of a cover by Amanda Conner. As is always the case with Dynamite, there’s an absolutely bewildering number of covers available for this comic, even without considering the exclusive bling bag variants. I’m pretty happy with this one though; it’s certainly a very playful cover, which is most definitely reflective of the nature of the story itself. Nothing groundbreaking, sure, but it’s a fun time and definitely knows its characters, not to mention their audience, very well indeed.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
