It’s Raphael’s turn to be tormented by the evil Savanti Romero, as he faces off against his ex girlfriend, Alopex. There’s also a flashback in which we get a closer look at another of Raphael’s ex-partners, explaining why Ninjara appears to be in the service of the aforementioned Romero. Finally, the Mister Ogg backup story sees him pitting the ‘Rise’ Turtles against the original, edgy, monochrome Mirage team.

This is another enjoyable issue of Battle Nexus. Though it could easily have devolved into an endless series of fight scenes, I’m impressed that the writers are making an effort to make readers care about the whys and wherefores of the tournament.

This issue’s emotionally charged matchup is perhaps the best so far, though I do question Raphael’s switch to using violence so drastically, even with his legendary temperament and the circumstances he finds himself in.

The backup story feels incomplete, and though it’s only a two page, humourous extra, it still feels a little odd that it just sort of…ends.

Art-wise, Battle Nexus can’t be faulted. Vitor Cafaggi’s detailed line work is superb, and Luis Antonio Delgado’s colours really make it shine.

Overall, I’m really impressed with how well Battle Nexus is balancing its action with genuine stakes and a lot of heart; considering it’s basically an excuse for a multiversal smack down, that’s a pretty big accomplishment.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
