Russian fighter Zangief loses his mojo during intense training for a wrestling match alongside his tag team partner, Rainbow Mika. Can Mika snap him out of his funk before it’s too late? What will it take to motivate Zangief once more?
I love these one shot, Street Fighter Masters comics. They’re fast-paced, fun stories that serve as great showcases for individual characters, and this Zangief issue is no exception. The lovable, glute-heavy World Warrior (and in terms of glutes, he’s not the only one with cheeks to spare in this comic!) is an endearing presence here; a far cry from the villainous character he was often portrayed as, years ago.
It’s just a hugely entertaining, one-and -done tale that doesn’t take itself seriously at all, and Matthew Weldon’s excellent art is a fantastic fit, just as it was when it graced the pages of the similarly brawl-heavy Final Fight comic book adaptation.
Though they’re not always perfect, and they’ve made a few odd decisions recently (particularly with the way they’re handling their Darkstalkers x Street Fighter crossover as a series of one-shot issues, despite being a continuous, single story), Udon really do seem to have a great handle on their Street Fighter comics, generally striking the right, campy tone with the scripts and always delivering when it comes to the artwork.
With a few other, long delayed Street Fighter Masters issues having just been released, I’m looking forward to seeing what other characters are currently up to, but this Zangief issue stands as one of my favourites so far.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!
All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
