Splinter is back from the dead, but how did he return? And why?

Yes, that’s a very brief synopsis by my standards; however, there are so many exciting reveals in this issue that it seems silly to reveal anything more than I have to.

While I’m not happy with the very sudden detective work from the Turtles in figuring out who Splinter has been transforming into since his return, with a sequence or two also suffering a bit from overly relying on exposition, there’s nothing else I can find fault with here.

The revealed information we get dropped on us here is fantastic, the artwork (by the ever reliable Freddie E. Williams II) hits a new peak and the cliffhanger is an absolute stunner.

There’s magic in the smaller moments too, such as a scene taking place in a pizza parlour which is brilliantly done.

I was really uncertain about the series when previous writer Jason Aaron left, but the status quo has become somewhat lighter and more optimistic, without dropping a beat when it comes to the drama.

Though IDW have been knocking it out of the park for years when it comes to their TMNT comics, I really do feel like we’re in the midst of a golden age for the Turtles right now.

Not bad for a bunch of characters who were invented to take the piss out of edgy, Frank Miller-style violent comics more than 4 decades ago, eh?

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
