The political situation looks dire. Despite years of preparation, the Babel Conference has fallen apart. Though things seem entirely hopeless, Starfleet have one final ace up their sleeve: the resurrected Captain James T. Kirk. Will the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one, yet again?

Though I’ve not been fully on board with the decision to include Kirk in this series, his willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good here, with no one else stepping up, does somewhat justify his presence at last.

The way that plays out is very interesting too, and sets up the third story arc nicely.

I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but I’ve really enjoyed the stylised art and slightly off-kilter, simple colour scheme used in this series, and there are some fantastic panels in this issue. I’m not so keen on the reliance on full text pages as exposition, even if they do appear as in-universe documents; it just feels like a lazy storytelling device in a visual medium, especially in the ways it’s used here.

Still, this is an enjoyable read regardless, and even if it hasn’t quite lived up to the strength of its first few issues, it’s at least been interesting and eventful, covering a mostly untouched era of the Star Trek universe.

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
