Following a successful Kickstarter campaign – which ran for the last few weeks of August this year – the second volume of premium gaming journal [lock-on] from Lost in Cult is being sent out to backers. As of today, the leftover orders – for copies left in the volume’s limited print run – are open. If you wanted to get your hands on a copy, now’s the time – once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Lost in Cult’s [lock-on] is packed full of insightful articles, covering a vast array of gaming and pop culture-related topics. The production values are, frankly, incredible – with stunning visual design and superb art from a wide range of artists throughout. The written content is of a very high standard and there’s plenty of material to sink your teeth into. The paper quality – and even the smell – remind you of just how intoxicating it can be to immerse yourself in a magazine and its contents.

Shameless self-plug time: I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to have my work featured in vol 002; my article is a look at the cyberpunk genre’s literary origins and how well the socio-political subtext of the genre has been covered (or not) in games.

Available in softcover or hardcover editions directly from Lost in Cult, at £20 and £50 respectively, [lock-on] is a great addition to any gaming aficionado’s library – a real objet d’art that is both style and substance. Though print media often feels as if it’s on its last legs – mostly due to the failure of bigger publishers to offer anything noticeably different from content available online – as long as beautiful, tangible and lovingly curated material such as [lock-on] exists, it’ll continue to have a place in the market.
