It really is a phenomenal time to be a Wonder Boy fan, isn’t it? No sooner has the Wonder Boy Collection been announced for Switch and PS4, the news of a significantly expanded, physical edition of the collection – including more games and multiple versions of each, along with some seriously impressive collectibles – also hit the web, with Strictly Limited on publishing duties for the Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection.

And now – because two lovely Wonder Boy collections obviously aren’t enough for us fans of the franchise, who haven’t had enough of the series in the last 35 years – Strictly Limited have also announced a physical version of Wonder Boy Returns Remix for the Switch, which also comes in a variety of editions including some very nice collectibles for the more limited versions.

First things first though – what is Wonder Boy Returns Remix? Unlike the aforementioned collections, Wonder Boy Returns Remix is a remake of a remake. The original Wonder Boy Returns spruced up the very first Wonder Boy arcade game by modernising its audio and visuals, giving it a lovely, brilliantly colourful makeover – as well as bringing in some new elements too.

This Remix makes the gameplay a little more forgiving and changes some of the additions brought into Wonder Boy Returns, with restructured difficulty, improved controls and even the return of the bosses from the original Wonder Boy game.

What’s new for physical edition collectors though? Let’s take a look…

The Standard Edition – which is limited to 3000 units worldwide – contains a beautiful, Master System box art-inspired manual and (of course) the game itself. This one will set you back €29.99; you can check out the store page here.

Of course, if you’re a real old school Wonder Boy fan and you can afford to splash out on a fancier edition, Strictly Limited have something very special on offer.

With just 2000 units to be made available, the fancier Collector’s Edition will set you back €54.99, but comes with a really nice selection of physical extras. Along with the manual that also comes with the standard edition, this one will be packaged in a Collector’s Edition Box (with a magnetic latch) and it’ll be filled with the following: a Wonder Boy Returns Remix Soundtrack CD, a Tote Bag, sheet of stickers, key chain, reversible poster and two postcards.
