After a few successful dates with Josh, Jen seems to have finally struck gold – until he fails to respond to one of her texts. So when the opportunity comes up to check on Emil Blonsky – aka Abomination – at his peaceful retreat, it’s the perfect opportunity for Jen to calm down, detox and make some new friends.
Oh and just a quick thing – as with last week’s spoiler alert: you’re still going to be waiting a little while longer for Matt Murdock to show up.
Though this episode is pretty much as light and (mostly) inconsequential as last week’s, it felt an awful lot more satisfying, not least because Jen was able to truly open up. Admittedly, this is done with an endearing and obscure cast of misfits, but each of them has some serious oddball charm – and that’s without even counting Tim Roth’s brilliantly chilled out Blonsky.
A clever mid-episode ‘previously’ is really well done too. Though that Daredevil tease is still hanging over everything, She-Hulk’s charm is on full display – and the supporting cast are on fine form in this episode as well.
It’s actually perfectly timed alongside Andor’s current run; with the Star Wars prequel series being so gritty and obsessed with (admittedly fascinating and brilliantly absorbing) bureaucratic minutiae, not to mention its measured pace, She-Hulk’s colourful, feminine playfulness is a brilliant, charming and fun contrast.
There’s one obvious comic book reference at the end of the episode – to a She-Hulk writer who should probably get the most credit for the ‘Attorney at Law’, superhuman legal angle of the show – which is a nice touch, but sadly no post credits scene this week.
Maybe if we behave ourselves this week, we’ll finally get the Daredevil we’ve been waiting for next week too. With only nine episodes of this first season overall, we better see him soon – fingers crossed, eh?
