No sooner has Indie Heroes 2 arrived on the scene – and it’s fantastic; you should definitely check it out for some retro-style, albeit new-ish, gaming goodness – than two more collections are announced to be coming to the console.

Toaplan Arcade 2 is another reminder of just how good arcade dev/publisher Toaplan were in their heyday. Featuring side-scrolling platformers Wardner and Demon’s World, top-down racer Rally Bike and – Toaplan’s undeniable are of expertise – shoot ’em ups Twin Cobra, Twin Hawk, Fire Shark and Hellfire, this is one absolutely classic collection that’ll be unmissable for old school gamers.
Yes, that includes me!
Even better, several of the included titles will make use of the Evercade EXP’s TATE mode too, for authentic arcade action exactly as the creators intended. Minus the need to use coins of course.
Talking of old school, I wasn’t overly enamoured with the first collection of Commodore 64 titles; the controls weren’t always as well implemented as they could have been and the games themselves felt a little underwhelming overall. Yet The C64 Collection 2 feels like a much stronger and more consistent compilation of titles from the beloved 80s machine.

The brilliant California Games – which has already appeared on the Evercade in its Atari Lynx incarnation – gets another shot at the gold, but there’s also the superb Nebulus, Firelord, Uridium and Cybernoid too. The highly regarded Impossible Mission II and Pit Stop II are a pair of welcome sequels, plus there’s World Games, Sword of Fargoal, Street Sports Basketball, Slayer, Zamzara and the amusingly named Mission Impossibubble.
Both collections are due on the 28th of April 2023, so there’s a little while to wait yet. However, there’s certainly no shortage of games to play on the Evercade, which – having just launched its best handheld yet – is going from strength to strength.
