Still trapped in his home by a sandstorm, the aging Obi-Wan’s thoughts move onto an early adventure with his mentor, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Jinn and Kenobi are sent to investigate a problem with a mine, on a planet which seems to have lost all of its light. There, they encounter a terrifying creature – and must do their best to survive and solve the problem as best they can.

This was a neat little done in one story, again cleverly using the framing device that was set up in the first issue to allow us a window into Kenobi’s memories.

The script was great – with some truly unforeseen twists and developments from writer Christopher Cantwell – and this issue’s guest artist, Luke Ross, does a great job with darkness and shadow, punctuated with little bursts of light.

The lightsabers, for example – or the modified macrobinoculars that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan use, which make them look a bit like Daft Punk/Jedi mashups.

It’s another excellent issue of a mini series that, I must admit, I wasn’t expecting much from.
