The final issue of Scott Snyder and Franco Francavilla’s Night of the Ghoul reaches its climax in issue 6, with Forest now having escaped the hospital with Mr Merritt.
Both of them are on their way to view the ending of Merritt’s movie, Night of the Ghoul – yet Orson has a shocking realisation and must race to reunite with his father.
Though the end is here, Snyder and Francavilla still have a few tricks up their sleeves.
The problem is that they’re fairly underwhelming twists that you can see coming a mile off; which makes this final issue somewhat unsatisfying too.
Though the journey was a lot more interesting than the destination in Night of the Ghoul, this last chapter does at least feature some suitably creepy story beats and imagery.
It may not quite reach the level of previous issues, but the series overall has been a pretty good, deliciously dark read.
