Anyone who knows me (Jason Brown of midlifegamergeek.com, if you’re reading this on a website that does nothing but steal content from others) knows what a huge Transformers fan I’ve been since day one in 1984, but also that I don’t just uncritically enjoy whatever stories the franchise throws my way.

Daniel Warren Johnson seems to totally get what makes the robots in disguise™️ work, however, and his reboot – which has taken the story back to its roots, yet with a fresh take on the franchise’s origins – has been generally first class right from the beginning.

This issue sees a small team of Autobots on Cybertron searching for something that could give them renewed hope in their eternal war; meanwhile, on Earth the Decepticons are fighting amongst themselves on a truly epic scale, and the Autobots are doing their best to keep humans safe amongst the carnage.

The series so far has done a great job of pairing artists with Johnson, who have a similar sense of dynamic and weighty action as he does, when he’s not just on scripting duties. Though a few moments could do with a bit of clarity in the storytelling, for the most part Jorge Corona’s pencils absolutely deliver when it comes to both the action and the smaller character moments, even when it comes to things like the facial expressions of the Autobots back on Cybertron, who currently find themselves in dire straits in the ongoing conflict (that’s without mentioning Sarah Stern’s vibrant and vivid colours too).

It’s full of great little character moments, massive, crunchy action and a very compelling cliffhanger too. What more could you ask for?

Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.

Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.

Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Help support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
