The two Night Breed factions come to blows in this very eventful issue, which sees the return of two more characters from the original story, adding to last issue’s unexplained and rather inexplicable Narcisse comeback (seeing as he was decapitated in the climax of the original story, in the comic book at least).
Despite ongoing issues with very inconsistent character appearances from issue to issue (and sometimes within the pages of a single issue!), Night Breed’s story continues to develop in some interesting directions, despite a reliance on what feels like overly coincidental instances of characters happening upon each other (which used to be the case all the time in superhero comics, as a fairly accepted trope; in Night Breed, it just feels awkward).
And what’s more, the reader ends up sympathising with something that happens to one of the ‘rogue’ ‘Breed during the battle that ensues between both sides. There’s some really clever humanisation of even the bad ‘monsters’, which really gets to the heart of Clive Barker’s original intent with Night Breed.
Also, I can’t go without mentioning just how much I love the covers of these comics, showcasing of a single Night Breed character on a black background. Each of the covers in the second story arc does this, and it’s something that really caught my eye and massively intrigued me back when these comics were first released. The detail is great, the creatures all look brilliantly unique and appropriately weird, so you’re left wanting to discover more about each featured character in the comics; this approach definitely does its job very well indeed.
Hi! I’m Jason, and I write for midlifegamergeek.com, every single day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human created content (which has never been plagiarised or otherwise copied from the hard work of other writers), you can donate and help me to keep this site running.
Not only do I earn no income from my writing here (though I may earn small fees from affiliate links posted on my pages; as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases from these links), but it seems that my work has, at times, been stolen and re-used by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.
There’s no pressure of course, but I’d be truly grateful for any support that you could offer – and it’s easy to do so at either of these links: Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or PayPal.
Any donations are truly appreciated – and I also appreciate you taking the time to read my articles. Remember: this whole article was by Jason Brown, and appeared on midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

All donations are gratefully received and will help me keep the lights on here – as well as help to keep my writing dream alive! Please be aware though: there’s no pressure. I just hope you’ve enjoyed reading my article!
